Four of today’s most advanced lens technologies are now available for Cataract patients at Larson Eye Care - REZOOM™, ReSTOR® , Crystalens® and the Tecnis IOLs. Each of these lens are implanted by Dr. Larson to replace the natural lens of the eye during Cataract and Lens Replacement surgery. Candidacy for one of the advanced premium lens options is determined by Dr. Larson during a thorough assessment of your vision.

The AMO REZOOM™ IOL uses five concentric refractive zones to help you see clearly at all distance ranges – near, mid and distance. The AcrysofReSTOR® IOL uses an advanced “apodized” diffractive optic design that gradually blends light rays entering the eye to focus properly on the retina so you can see images clearly at various distances. The Crystalens is an accommodating lens which uses the muscles around the lens of your eye to help you see naturally at all ranges of vision – neat, far and in-between. The TecnisIOL lens gives patients clear distance vision in all light conditions, especially improving vision in low light conditions.

Correcting Distance Vision with a Monofocal IOL
A monofocal IOL, or single focus lens, is designed to provide clear distance vision. This means you will be able to see objects that are far away. However, you will need glasses for reading and any type of close, detailed work following surgery. The TecnisIOL is a monofocal IOL. Millions of monofocal IOLs have been successfully implanted providing patients with clear distance vision.

Correcting Distance and Near Vision with Multifocal & Accommodating IOL’s
Previous lens replacement technologies corrected distance vision leaving patients dependent upon reading glasses, or bifocals, after cataract surgery. Recent advances now make it possible for you to read magazines, newspapers and computer screens, while still clearly seeing objects at a distance, without depending on glasses. The multifocal lenses are called ReZoom and ReSTOR and data supports that patients choosing the ReZoom or ReSTOR lenses are spectacle free for all activities, about 80% of the time. The accommodating lens is called Crystalens and studies indicate that 98% of patients who chose Crystalens could pass their driver’s test.

In addition, candidates for the Clear Lens refractive surgery patients over the age of 50 (presbyopic patients without cataracts), ReZoom, ReSTOR and Crystalens can restore the lost near point of focus for most daily activities.

Crystalens™ Frequently Asked Questions

What is Crystalens™?
The Crystalens™ is the first and only intraocular lens replacement that focuses like the natural lens of the eye allowing for continuous vision up close, far away and all distances in between. Crystalens™ can restore full functional vision and in most cases, eliminate the need for glasses and contact lenses.

How Does It Work?
By using the eye’s muscle to move the lens naturally in response to messages from the brain to see at different distances, the Crystalens™ enables you to focus at near, far and intermediate ranges seamlessly. Patients experience the same vision they had when they were younger, for most without the inconvenience of corrective eyewear.

What is an accommodating intraocular lens?
Crystalens™ is an accommodating lens, which means that it focuses like the eye’s natural lens allowing for continuous vision up close, far away and at all distances in between. The Crystalens™ is intended to restore near, intermediate and distance vision, in most cases, eliminating the need for glasses and contacts when performing every day tasks, allowing you to see well and look your best.

In contrast, standard lens implants provide vision at distance only and most people with standard implants must wear glasses for near vision (reading)  and intermediate vision (computer work) as well.

Who are the best candidates for Crystalens™?
The Crystalens™ is ideally suited for individuals who want to restore their youthful vision. Dr. Larson will perform a series of tests to determine if this lens is right for you. To find out if you’re a candidate for this exciting procedure, call our office today.

If I’ve had LASIK can I still be a candidate for Crystalens™?
Yes! The good news is that if you’ve had previous corneal refractive surgery you may be a candidate. Candidacy is best determined during a visit with Dr. Larson.
